Thank you Judges!
Of course we all love cupcakes but how many of us can manage to eat close to a dozen cupcakes in a row? That’s why we needed to bring in special guest judges to handle the tasting portion of the contests held at Cupcake Camp Montreal.
We’d like to give a huge thank you bear hug to the awesome judges who devoured over 40 cupcakes submitted to the contest.
Bob Le Chef, The Anarchist Chef and Author
Herman Alves, Chair of Table of Hope / Table d’espoir
Katerine Rollet, Tourism Montreal
Lesley Chesterman, Montreal Gazette
Ricardo Larrivée, Ricardo Cuisine
Rob Kemp, CHOM FM
Todd van der Heyden, CTV
Also, thank you to CBC Weatherman Frank Cavallaro for being a great MC throughout the day.

Cupcake Camp Montreal Judges photo by Isablah
Bob Le Chef, jumped right on board with Cupcake Camp to be the official judge of the FailCake contest. He polished off the savory cupcake made of a blend of wheat, smoked meat, cheese curds, bagels and cream cheese. Stay tuned for Bob Le Chef’s upcoming episode about Cupcake Camp Montreal.
Herman Alves who owns Bitoque restaurant where the event took place has been more than generous to our event, lending us his restaurant, supplies, donated cupcakes and helped us judge the best cupcakes of the day. Huge thank you to Herman.
Katerine Rollet was very enthusiastic throughout the day about all the yummy cupcakes she got to munch on. You can learn about her favorite Montreal foods at Tourism Montreal.
Lesley Chesterman has been adored over the last decade as a fine-dining food critic for the Montreal Gazette so we were thrilled to have her expert opinion on our cupcakes. Read her blog to find out where you should eat next.
Ricardo Larrivée’s infectious smile made our day even brighter. This Food Network Canada host had a great time at Cupcake Camp and is already talking about next year!
Todd van der Heyden, CTV Montreal News anchor was a champ. You could tell he doesn’t eat junk food and he ate a lot of cupcakes! We appreciate him making the sacrifice.
Rob Kemp, host of the Rob Kemp Show on CHOM 97.7FM was gracious enough to spend his birthday with us on the day of Cupcake Camp. Check his video about his experience at Cupcake Camp.
Nonna Maria and Shmoked Meat!
We LOVE Nonna Maria! We think the judges do too. We’re not giving away any punch lines but there’s Katerine, Rob, Todd and Ricardo in this clip!

It takes awesome people to make a successful event
An event like this couldn’t happen without good people. This was a completely volunteer run event and all proceeds went directly to Kids Help Phone.
There are so many people to thank but we have to start somewhere so…
These people did more than their share. They exceeded in generously offering their time and giving all that they had to make this event happen. It couldn’t have happened without them.
- BAKERS! BAKERS! BAKERS! CUPPYCAKES!
It’s all about the cupcakes! We had 3500! Every cupcake counted and every cupcake devoured! THANK YOU BAKERS for making this event happen! We’re going through that list and we’re shouting out your names very soon! - CUPCAKE EATERS!
You came out en masse! WE <3 YOU! We raised $8000 because of everyone’s participation! Thank you for coming out, waiting in line and enduring the box shortage! - Volunteers <3
Major volunteers: Anile, Michelle, Laura. These people are the awesomest of the awesome. Their dedication, generosity, BIG HEARTS and hard working ethics make them the most amazing team members anyone could ask for!
WE <3 the VOLUNTEERS! So many to thank! We’re making a list! - Kids Help Phone <3
First, we think KHP is just an awesome charity. Period.
THEN they have Gaelle who is more than just an employee for KHP. She’s just amazing. Above and beyond her duties, she gave us her heart and seemlessly joined our team as if she were a volunteer. - Bitoque <3
Herman Alves for generously donating his restaurant, for suggesting Kids Help Phone and for being Herman. Always doing everything above and beyond. Not to mention, Bitoque even sponsored the event with cupcakes! Chef Christine made “Elvis” and “Shortstack”! - Judges and our MC <3
Judges: Rob Kemp, Lesley Chesterman, Todd van der Heyden, Ricardo Larrivée, Katerine Rollet, Bob le Chef, Herman Alves.
They’re champs! They consumed so many cupcakes, I feel sick for them. We love them for taking this so seriously while having a great time. We were fortunate to have them! We’ll have a post just for them with pics of them judging the cupcakes!
MC: Frank Cavallaro is simply awesome! <3! - Sponsors <3
Major sponsors we need to thank are MrsMacchi, Pazazz Printing and Cakemail for their generosity!
A full list of sponsors are coming and we have so many to thank!
This is just the beginning of thank yous! We have to thank MORE volunteers, bakers, contestants, sponsors, donaters and the list goes on!
Keep staying tuned, the posts are coming!
THANK YOU to EVERYONE. I don’t think there’s enough thank yous to go around!
Major cuppylove!
